Care of Steel fry pans
- Color of pan will change over time this is common, it will darken as it becomes more seasoned
- Wash pan with hot water and small amount of liquid detergent, do not use abrasive cleanser
- Hand wash
When you unpack new fry pan
After the pan is manufactured there is a thin coat of food safe vegetable oil wiped onto pan to prevent rusting in storage and shipping, then pan is placed into a plastic bag. The bag will stick to the oil on the pan, This will leave temporary marks and spots on the pan. These spots will be removed when washed and seasoned.
Seasoning a steel fry pan prior to first usage:
- Wash the fry pan in hot water with liquid detergent and a scouring pad. Do not use an abrasive cleanser on the interior of the pan.
- Rinse the pan and dry thoroughly
- Heat the pan on high, turning and tilting it all the way to the rim until the metal pan is evenly hot. It may change color slightly when heated this is natural.
- Remove the pan from the heat and turn the heat to medium to low.
- Add a thin coat of flavorless cooking oil over the entire inside surface area of the Pan ( use caution the pan is still very hot, use tongs to hold a paper towel when distributing cooking oil ), Another method would be to use a basting brush to distribute the oil.
- On medium low heat the pan for 10 minuets
- Use a clean paper towel wipe off any excess oil, Pan will darken at this point again this is natural. There may be a dark residue on the paper towel. Repeat steps 5-7 until there is no dark residue on the paper towel
- The pan can now be used and will have non- stick properties.
After use of the pan hand wash in hot water with a mild detergent, turn pan upside down for most effective drying. Repeat above steps as often as you would like to maintain the non stick properties of your pan.
